Barbados-Based REDjet Shuts Down Less Than a Year After Launch

Barbados-based lowfare carrier REDjet has suspended operations following an extremely turbulent 9 months trying to bring inexpensive fares to the Caribbean.

The sad part (other than the lost jobs, of course) is that the region will now lose the $9.99 fares that allowed people to hop between Barbados and Antigua, Guyana and 6 other destinations for next-to-nothing.

Stung by regulatory issues, a closed door to the US market (because of Barbados’ 2nd-tier status with the FAA) and too-large-for-the-market MD80s, REDjet probably never had a chance.

Look for fares within the region to jump immediately.
