Silverjet's TV Ad

Thanks to this anonymous tip from an OTR reader:

Check out this 1989 British Airways ad here, then see the new Silverjet TV spot here.  Very, very clever.

So ripping off someones ad, basically frame for frame is very very clever?

I'm surprised that they could afford to film an ad when they are losing more money that the revenue they bring in.

To me it looks like they could not afford the extras or a new idea.

you guys missed the point: the BA ad is about moving a ton of people around - hence the legions of people making up the moving smiley face. The Silverjet ad shows only 4 or 5 people making the same smiley face -- because Silverjet is all about exclusivity while BA is about moving a ton of people around.

How dare YOU sir!

I get the point. And if the BA ad was currently running (or had run in the last 18 years) I would say that the silverjet ads are clever. As an example, when cell phone companies recently launched an ad campaign extolling the virtues of their "openness"(a direct shot at the iPhone for those not in the know), I found it quite funny and clever.

This...not so much.

Wow -- both brilliant.
